About the Role
The Clinical Nurse (CN) identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. This role directs and acts as a resource to other members of the nursing team, promoting compliance and support for policies. The position provides total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, including assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care. The CN delivers direct patient care, ensures patient satisfaction, trains and delegates duties, and adheres to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
Autonomous nursing care involves assessing and providing nursing actions based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse practices autonomously consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance, exercising independent judgment within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Responsibilities include providing direct patient care to a diversified patient population, applying knowledge and experience to determine priorities, and participating in patient and staff education. The role demonstrates leadership, accountability, and professionalism as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
Responsibilities
- Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care.
- Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
- Train and delegate duties to other nursing team members.
- Adhere to University policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local regulations.
- Practice autonomous nursing care consistent with ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance.
- Exercise independent judgment within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary patient care approaches.
- Provide direct patient care to a diversified patient population, applying knowledge and experience to evaluate clinical situations.
- Set priorities and use abstract thought to evaluate clinical situations.
- Participate in patient and staff education.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and accountability for own practices.
- Manage referrals, telephone triage, and clinical care coordination for adult and pediatric patients.
- Support patient care in procedural areas, including preop, postop, intraop, and moderate sedation.

Requirements
- Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction.
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR.
- American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- UC Davis Moderate Sedation Certification within 6 months of hire.
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- At least three (3) years of recent RN experience in ambulatory care.
- Recent RN experience in a surgical specialty.
- Recent RN experience with procedural compliance.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent RN experience in an operating room or procedural room.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent RN experience with moderate sedation.
- EPIC experience.
- RN telephonic triage experience.
- Experience providing patient education and caring for patients with Otolaryngology diagnosis.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Ability to utilize medical terminology appropriately.

Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR).
- Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB-BC).
- American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Moderate Sedation Certification.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- At least two (2) years of ENT ambulatory experience.
- Advanced understanding of the medical management of Otolaryngology diagnosis.
- Referral experience.
- Knowledge and experience related to critical care and emergency situations.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and situational awareness skills.
Department Overview
The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at the UC Davis Medical Center provides comprehensive clinical services to patients throughout Northern California. The team delivers outstanding patient care in the otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat) clinic, which has over 20,000 visits per year. The department offers specialized expertise and the latest medical technologies for a full range of conditions and complex diseases in the head and neck region. Located near downtown Sacramento, the clinic is conveniently accessible from major highways.
Pay
Salary range: $77.41 - $104.16 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time (100%), Monday through Friday, varied AM start times, 8-hour shifts.
