About the role

Elite Lighting is a leading manufacturer of architectural, commercial, industrial, and residential lighting. We are seeking a competent CNC Programmer and Operator to use computer numerical control (CNC) machinery safely and accurately to perform a variety of functions. This position is in charge of our production and machine metal shop.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, program, and operate CNC machines to perform tasks such as drilling, grinding, milling, etc.
  • Generate, update, and revise CAD drawings or SolidWorks Models for effective transfer to a CNC program.
  • Generate, update, and revise CNC programs from various software packages to cut various materials to specific dimensions.
  • Maintain program history for production jobs.
  • Coordinate the generation and revision of programs, tool lists, cut lists, and job set-up sheets for processing operations as part of the job confirmation process.
  • Coordinate the archiving of machine-specific information, such as program files, IGES files, tooling, and machine process flows as required.
  • Understand specifications of the task at hand and the desired result by reading blueprints, mechanical drawings, etc.
  • Translate instructions into computer commands so the machines can perform the correct function.
  • Prepare and load raw materials and parts onto the machines.
  • Prepare a test run to check if the machines produce outputs according to specifications.
  • Set machines to complete full cycles to fabricate large quantities of parts.
  • Oversee the machines while they execute the tasks and make any necessary adjustments to produce better results.
  • Inspect and measure finished products and compare them with requirements to determine if the process has been completed properly.
  • Check and maintain machinery daily to ensure functionality.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a CNC operator.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret mechanical documents, engineering drawings, work instructions, schematic drawings, and follow verbal instructions regarding work assignments.
  • Skill in operating CNC machinery and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic drawings and blueprints.
  • Ability to edit and create CNC programs and cut lists with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to complete routine forms, both hard copy and electronic.
  • Ability to program CNC machines such as lasers, press brakes, punch press, and other CNC-controlled equipment using 3D models and programming software.
  • Computer savvy with basic understanding of computer programming and CAD/CAM.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing conditions of material such as bend deductions, bend radii, tooling selections of punch for proper tool clearance and tolerances.
  • Knowledge of G-codes, which involves editing and modifying programs.
  • Mechanical aptitude and apt mathematical skills.
  • Possess a keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiar with basic use of inspection tools such as height gauge, calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Operate computer equipment to access job information such as drawings, models, specifications, and other online information systems.
  • Perform job tasks that include uploading/downloading programs and creating/editing CNC programs.
  • Requires minimal supervision with regard to machine set-up.
