Responsibilities
- Performs general line maintenance in various weather conditions while utilizing safety fundamentals.
- Completes fallen tree removals from aerial plant, including right of way tree trimming as needed.
- Completes DSA structure support repairs (wooden, metal decking).
- Replaces broken, sets new, and realigns poles as needed – includes reattaching all cables.
- Performs pole transfers per designated work order requests.
- Performs all necessary line repairs – strand, lashing wire, guy wires, anchor placing, proper slack placement, etc.
- Operates construction and other excavating equipment to construct, maintain, and repair outside plant cable facilities.
- Performs the maintenance, repairs, and placement of new (copper, fiber, coax) aerial and buried cable according to maps, staking sheets and locate markings.
- Reviews and updates GIS, maps, addresses, as-builds.
- Sets peds, vaults, and handholes along with marking/labeling fiber optic, copper/coax facilities.
- Installs, troubleshoots, tests, splices, repairs, and maintains fiber optic/copper/coax facilities.
- Identifies location of defective cable using various test equipment and repairs buried, aerial, underground and/or customer cable.
- Locates cable and fiber in response to customer requests and/or construction needs.
- Performs cable fault acceptance tests on newly constructed facilities.
- Ensures worksite and landscape is fully restored after project completion.
- Proficiently operates all test equipment associated with outside plant facilities.
- Trains and monitors personnel as directed by supervisor or team lead.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of construction experience utilizing construction equipment such as a trencher, plow, and backhoe -OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge.
- 1+ years of telecommunications outside plant experience.
- Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS’s business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers’ needs.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.
- Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Class A CDL. A current CDL is preferred at hire, but TDS will train and certify eligible associates through its in-house CDL certification program after hire.
- Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Training course curriculum.
- Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
- Physical requirements may vary based on company needs: Ability to dig, lift and climb.
- Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel.
- Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
- May be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.
- Must be able to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.
