About the Role

Telecom Outside Plant (OSP) Field Engineer responsible for providing detailed OSP fiber optic cable design field notes and pole data for proposed underground routes. Visits job sites primarily in Snohomish County to Whatcom County to document designated buried/underground fiber cable and pole mount cabinets, adhering to company policies, procedures, and quality standards while meeting customer delivery requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide detailed OSP field notes for buried and underground proposed routes.
  • Manage all projects to meet or exceed minimum specifications of Construction Policies, NESC, NEC, OSHA, State, County, and all other applicable agencies.
  • Maintain high productivity, ensuring timeframes are met for simultaneous projects, and track/generate field notes, fielding checklists, and digital photos.
  • Report project status daily.
  • Prepare, manage, and maintain project documentation, maps, and CAD drawings.
  • Create field notes and drawings with detailed field information.

Requirements

  • Experience in fielding copper and fiber optic network additions in detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, utilities maps, professional documentation, and blueprints.
  • Experience with systems such as Infinium, Varasset, M6, Control Desk (for fiber key sheets), FROGS (Ziply Fiber GIS platform for OSP cable plant records), AutoCAD, DPI (cable facility inventory and customer terminal records), and FTTP fiber records is strongly desired.
  • Ability to write detailed reports, correspondence, and documentation.
  • Effective communication with vendors, customers, and team members regarding project status and changes.
  • Site work experience, including detailed review of areas to capture existing utilities, adjacent structures, measurements, and facility extension paths.
  • Ability to read and understand architectural/engineering drawings and manage drawing requirements.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with smartphones for email, Dropbox, time entry, and activity management systems.
  • Familiarity with tools such as GE MapSight, GPS units, and laser range finders is a plus.
  • Must pass a background check and drug screening as a condition of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record (verified via pre-employment MVR review and ongoing checks).
  • Use of personal vehicle required, with mileage reimbursement at the IRS standard rate.

Physical Requirements

  • Daily walking up to 4 miles.
  • Extensive outdoor work, exposed to all weather conditions (heat, cold, sun, precipitation).
  • May carry equipment such as GPS units, antennas, measuring sticks, wheels, and other handheld devices weighing 5–20 pounds.
  • Ability to read engineering designs with color-coded telecom routes.

Pay

$28.00 to $32.00 per hour, dependent on experience.
