About the role

This is a seasonal role that will have a start date in September and run through the end of the Osceola Magic season.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and work in conjunction with Head Athletic Trainer, Coaches, and Front Office staff on day to day to player improvement and planning
  • Implementation of individualized measured physical preparation programs for each player while considering positional demands, organizational goals, and physical attributes
  • Implement and supervise strength and conditioning workouts in season
  • Provide proper instruction and demonstration of all training techniques
  • Ongoing evaluation and assessments of each player to establish training goals in relation to strength, power, flexibility, movement efficiency, speed, quickness, and overall conditioning
  • Communicate, educate, and explain your rationale for programming to each player
  • Communicate, educate, and explain all programming goals, rationale, and plans to staff
  • Provide group updates and reports on all players as asked by General Manager
  • Utilization of sports technology and athlete monitoring tools
  • Collaborate daily with other medical staff members on the overall status of each player, maintenance considerations, and aid in the creation of injury limiting strategies
  • Lead the rehabilitation of injuries and oversee player physical maintenance during acute and long-term injuries
  • Oversee end stage rehabilitation of injuries including the programming for return to training, return to play, and return to performance for basketball
  • Responsible for overseeing player activation and warm-up sessions during practice, shoot-arounds, and during games
  • Responsible for the physical maintenance of all players who are not seeing consistent playing time in games
  • Aid in the design of active and non-active recovery plans
  • Aid in the promotion of healthy eating habits and engaging in our performance nutrition program
  • Aid in the monitoring of weight management plans
  • Order/provide daily food, workout drinks, shakes, etc. for pre/post practice and games
  • Travel with the team during the regular season and playoffs
  • Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance, and organization of the Magic gym space and equipment
  • All other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in sports science related field or equivalent work experience
  • Four+ years of strength and conditioning experience
  • Must be NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)
  • Ability to work all games for the Osceola Magic Season
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends and be on-call as necessary based on the changing priorities of the department
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office products and other related computer skills required
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills and attention to detail required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on business writing skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects
  • Ability to work independently without supervision, be self-directed and demonstrate initiative
  • Strong team synergy skills and ability to work collaboratively with others whom you have no direct authority over
  • Excellent ability to establish rapport with others and ability to build strong interpersonal relationships
  • Exhibit good judgment and decision-making skills

Physical Requirements

  • Position will be required to be active, coach on feet, will be able to demonstrate and perform numerous exercises in both a guided warm up capacity and in the gym and weight room during strength and conditioning sessions
  • Capability to lift in excess of 70 pounds
