OS/Captain

Bowhead Marine Support Services seeks multiple, part-time, on-call OS/Captains for the operations of 120' Missile Retrievers and other small craft in direct support of the 53rd Weapons Group, 82nd Aerial Target Squadron at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida.

About the role

Crew, operate, and maintain assigned vessels in direct support of the 53rd Weapons Group, 82nd Aerial Target Squadron missions. These missions range from harbor operations to open ocean operations within 200 nautical miles of the Panama City Sea Buoy.

Conduct and assist with preventative, corrective, predictive maintenance, and general repairs of all vessels, including modifications to suit mission requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate vessels in close proximity to other craft, waterborne targets, and structures.
• Follow instructions for planned maritime operations and understand military communications.
• Serve as Vessel Captain when needed.
• Support Port Operations including workboats for security gate operations, line handling, pusher boat duties, and oil boom installation/removal around moored or anchored vessels.

Requirements

• Minimum of two (2) years experience as a deckhand.
• Ability to maintain watercraft.
• Hold a USCG Rating forming part of the Navigational Watch.
• Meet the standard of competence specified in Section A-II/4 of the STCW Code.
• Pass pre-employment and routine drug screening as required by Maritime Consortium.
• Possess a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team.

Qualifications

Preferred experience includes:

• Operating craft used for range clearance operations, range safety, and recovery of drones and subscale aerial target waterborne recovery.
• Familiarity with systems such as MK-30, MK-39, Mk-46, MK-48, MK-54, Portable Underwater Tracking Range (PUTR), Portable Acoustic Range (PAR), LASEREX, and High Speed Maneuvering Seaborne Target (HSMST) operations.

Pay

Target salary is $122.54 per day.

Physical Demands

The work environment varies and includes docks, ports, bays, waterways, office spaces, equipment rooms, warehouse spaces, construction zones, and outdoor environments. Work hours may fluctuate outside of normal duty hours.
