About the Role

The Clinical Nurse (CN) identifies and implements nursing interventions and evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations. This position provides total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care, including assessing, documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, and evaluating a comprehensive nursing plan of care. The role involves delivering direct patient care, ensuring patient satisfaction, training and delegating duties, and adhering to University policies and federal, state, and local regulations.

Autonomous nursing care is expected, with the nurse assessing and providing nursing actions based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. Independent judgment is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. The CN provides direct care to a diversified patient population, applies clinical judgment, participates in patient and staff education, demonstrates leadership, and maintains accountability for practice as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities

Department Overview

The Orthopedic/Trauma Unit is a 36-bed acute care specialty and telemetry unit providing inpatient care for adult and pediatric patients with diverse medical and surgical needs. The primary patient population includes Orthopedic and Plastic Surgery patients, with services covering trauma, spine, total joints, sports, tumor, pediatrics, hand, foot, and ankle. The unit also cares for patients from Trauma Surgery, Burn Surgery, Acute Care Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Medicine.

Requirements

• Valid California Registered Nurse License without restriction.
• American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS), or UC Davis Health CPR certification.
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• At least 3 years of recent RN Orthopedic/Trauma experience.
• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Proficiency in medical terminology.
• Knowledge of current trends in nursing.
• Commitment to excellence in patient care.
• Effective interpersonal skills and adaptability to change.
• Knowledge of legal implications in clinical practice and documentation.
• Understanding of performance improvement and evidence-based practice.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, considering developmental, behavioral, and physiological characteristics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

Pay

Hourly salary range: $77.41 - $104.16.

Schedule

• Shift: Nights, variable.
• Percentage of Time: 90%.
• Works overtime as defined by collective bargaining agreements; may float to other areas and work weekends, holidays, and call as required.
