As an Ortho Tech, you'll assist orthopedic specialists with casts, splints, and braces, crucial for patient recovery and comfort.

Every day you'll prepare patients, educate on device care, and ensure comfort during applications/removals, while maintaining equipment and documenting interactions.

To succeed, you need strong orthopedic anatomy knowledge, aseptic techniques, and device application skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains hospital standards of zero tolerance for mislabeled specimens and collects laboratory specimens according to hospital protocol.
  • Assists the nurse/physician during examinations, treatments and procedures as requested.
  • Retrieves necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Performs follow-up actions as directed.
  • Documents clinically relevant findings in the patient's record according to hospital protocols and clinical protocols.
  • Makes sure patients are comfortable during cast, splint, and brace applications.
  • Maintains equipment and ensures it is in good working order.
  • Documents interactions with patients and staff.

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program
  • Candidates who completed a program prior to February 2, 2000 can satisfy the minimum education requirements by providing evidence of direct supervision by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours to satisfy the minimum education requirements
  • Six (6) months related experience casting, splinting, traction application and various soft good applications
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR

Preferred

  • Previous MA experience
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience
  • Previous experience in designated specialty
  • Bilingual skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program or completion of an U.S. Armed Forces medical services training program
  • Six (6) months related experience casting, splinting, traction application and various soft good applications
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR
