Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
- Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
- Orthopedic technician certification preferred.
- Successful completion of ortho technician orientation required upon hire.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Under the direction of unit nursing or unit leadership, performs basic patient care technician/nursing assistant functions.
- Assists with fractures, casting, placement of skeletal pins and removal of sutures or pins.
- Assembles and attaches orthopedic traction equipment and devices.
- Maintains cast room and inventory of orthopedic equipment and supplies.
