Child care aide positions available for candidates who are fun, energetic, creative, and passionate about working with children.

Position Summary

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Delivers a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Responsibilities

  • Implements curriculum within established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
  • Supervises children, classroom, and all activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
  • Conducts parent conferences and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents.
  • Engages parents as volunteers.
  • Maintains program site and equipment.
  • Maintains required program records.
  • Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
  • Promotes the physical, intellectual, social, cultural, and emotional well-being of children.
  • Works with the staff team to plan and implement activities.
  • Provides direct leadership to assigned groups and maintains constant visual contact with all children.
  • Participates in daily activities and aids children in completing tasks, including land and water-based activities.
  • Assists in assessing child abilities and developmental stages.
  • Builds enthusiasm for activities and programs.
  • Completes required documentation regarding attendance, health and wellness, sign-in and sign-out, and other items as assigned.
  • Notifies parents if children are not in attendance.
  • Keeps program areas neat and organized.
  • Follows all safety procedures, regulating agency, and YMCA child care policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Maintains friendly, positive, and professional relationships with children, parents, school & day care partners, and other YMCA staff.
  • Projects a positive image of the YMCA and the Day Care program.
  • Follows work site requirements regarding punctuality, appropriate dress, staff meeting attendance, etc.
  • Carries out tasks as assigned by the Site or Program Director.
  • Assists in program and YMCA recruitment and special events.
  • Works YMCA Camp Days and alternate program locations as scheduled.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be available 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Must be available to work select days out of the school calendar (e.g., staff meetings, trainings, special events, and school-out camp days).
  • Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
  • School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required.
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (provided at no cost by GLOW YMCA) within 60 days of hire date.
  • Must complete employee sexual harassment and child abuse prevention trainings upon hire (paid 3.5 hours).
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and ability to develop positive relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
  • Requires vision, hearing, speech, and movement abilities to provide safe supervision of children at all times.

Schedule

2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with additional availability for select days outside the school calendar (e.g., staff meetings, trainings, special events, and school-out camp days).
