Organ Recovery Surgeon
Key Responsibilities
- Surgically recovers abdominal (liver, kidney, pancreas, and small bowel) organs for transplantation and research in donor hospitals throughout the service area.
- Affords on-call responsibilities as required to assure adequate coverage for donor activity and must be available to surgically recover organs at the specified time.
- Supports compliance to CMS and UNOS regulations and AOPO standards and/or other medical/legal requirements.
- Provides education and training to OPO staff and hospital personnel involved in the donation process.
- Serves as an advisor between the organization and hospital staff when organ procurement is in progress.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), board certified in general surgery with a current licensure
- 5+ years of experience in organ recovery and transplantation, medical management of organ donors, and/or in critical care
- Availability for weekdays and weekends of donor recovery call (number of call days to be determined)
- Well-developed interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact with all management, supervisors, and staff
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications to include Word, PowerPoint and Excel
