Job Summary
The Orderly supports services and performs specific elements of direct patient care in the Surgical Department. Responsibilities include assisting with surgery flow, ensuring supplies are available, cleaning, disposing of waste, and other duties as assigned.
Job Description and Duties
- Provides direct patient care by assisting with changing linens, ambulation, and transport.
- Maintains a clean and orderly patient care environment.
- Assists during patient examinations and procedures.
- Aids in room turnover and preparation for following procedures.
- Collects and properly disposes of all wastes, including biohazardous materials.
- Assists with limited patient care in the operating, recovery, and procedure rooms.
- Orders and stocks supplies for assigned areas.
- Performs weekly and monthly cleaning of designated areas.
- Assists with pre-operative area setup, moving stretchers/recliners, removing dirty linens, and disposing of trash.
- Maintains patient/facility confidentiality.
- Assists nurses as needed.
- Assists with patient transfers to gurneys.
- Performs routine care, maintenance, and troubleshooting of designated equipment and devices.
- Rotates, receives, checks out, and stores supplies.
- Participates in quality assurance/performance improvement programs.
- Participates in assigned activities to acquire and maintain accreditation.
- Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with safety policies and procedures, recognizing and addressing safety hazards.
Qualifications
- Completion of high school education or equivalent.
- Current BLS certification.
- At least six months of experience as an Environment Attendant.
- Hospital experience preferred.
- Possesses the ability to follow established cleaning methods and perform daily tasks.
- Possesses the ability to perform routine repetitive cleaning of assigned OR rooms, offices, restrooms, and other areas.
- Ability to keep equipment in good working condition.
- Possesses the ability to perform periodic or situational duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
