Orbital Welder

Responsibilities

• Experience operating the AMI M217 and the Polysoude P4-4 orbital welding machines.
• Ability to develop orbital weld programs for thin wall tubes.
• Working in a spacecraft building clean room environment.
• Maintain clean and efficient workspace.
• Experience in the use of tools for visual weld inspection.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, and MS Teams.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to help design and test space components, ensuring they meet technical specifications and mission requirements.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to determine welding and fabrication requirements.
• Utilize engineering principles to analyze and solve welding-related problems.
• Operate and maintain orbital welding equipment ensuring they are in optimal condition.
• Conduct visual inspections of welded joints to ensure they meet strict quality standards and comply with space industry regulations.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance welding and fabrication processes, efficiency, and quality.
• Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.

Requirements

• Operator will be required to achieve defect-free X-ray quality welds working to AWS D17.1 specifications.
• Technical training or certification in welding preferred.
• No degree is also applicable with years of experience.
• Minimum of 2-5 years of orbital welding experience, with a focus on aerospace or space industry components.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings and specifications.
• Welding materials commonly used in aerospace applications, such as Titanium Ti-6Al-4V, Aluminum 6061, 316L Stainless Steel, and Inconel Alloy 625.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
