Oracle WebLogic Linux Administrator/Support (HYBRID)
Our Government Utility Client in Downtown NYC is seeking an Oracle WebLogic Linux Administrator for a 12+ month hybrid role. Must be local for in-person interviews. Start date: 9/15/2026.
Schedule
- Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (35-hour work week, including a one-hour unpaid lunch)
- Hybrid work schedule: 3 days onsite, 2 days remote
About the Organization
The Office of Information Technology (Client) provides IT services including systems development, database management, network and telecommunication services, and technical support. The department delivers IT solutions to meet the agency’s business and operational needs, interacts with the New York State Office of Children and Family Services and other NYC agencies on IT-related issues, and enforces compliance with NYC Cyber Command security requirements and citywide IT policies.
The Production Support unit consists of three operational areas: Production Administration, Systems Administration, and Database Administration. This unit manages and supports Oracle database and application servers (on-prem and cloud), implements and supports internally developed or vendor-provided application solutions, and enforces data security and retention policies.
Responsibilities
- Plan, design, install, configure, secure, maintain, patch, and support all WebLogic and Oracle HTTP Server environments in Solaris/Linux and Windows OS, including zones/containers, DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes (AKS, ARO), and cloud services
- Analyze, monitor resource utilization, and tune the performance of application servers and associated components (thread usage, connection pool usage, CPU & memory usage)
- Analyze log files, thread dumps, JVM dumps, and exception stack traces
- Deploy and troubleshoot JAR, WAR, and EAR files in domain and clustered environments
- Configure and deploy HTTPS/SSL certificates to enable secure encrypted access to websites
- Develop, validate, and implement a patching strategy for server environments, including regular security updates
- Ensure all environment changes adhere to established Change Management policies and procedures
- Perform periodic disaster recovery tests and maintain documentation and procedures for these systems
- Collaborate with application developers, database administrators, and system administrators for configuration and integration of database and application components
- Install, configure, manage, and monitor COTS products (e.g., Client DocuShare, OpenText, Liquid Office, Client Quality Center, Tableau)
- Assist network system administrators and security teams in monitoring application server environments
- Evaluate new systems and applications for resource planning
- Set up and monitor scheduled batch jobs and system alerts to ensure 24x7 support and high availability
- Liaise with Oracle and other vendors to troubleshoot technical issues
- Follow communications protocols for system failures/outages and file incident reports
- Escalate major hardware/software problems to senior IT staff
- Respond to Service Desk tickets, ensuring timely follow-up and resolution
- Prepare system configurations, management/support documentation, and provide training and knowledge transfer to team members
- Maintain inventory of applications and software assets; create and maintain infrastructure diagrams
- Available to work after hours and weekends as needed
Requirements
- Preferably 6-8 years of experience as an Application Server Administrator managing large-scale Oracle WebLogic servers in Unix/Linux OS environments
- Working knowledge of installation, configuration, management, monitoring, and troubleshooting:
- Oracle WebLogic, Oracle Application Server, Oracle Reports Server, and Oracle OBIEE/OAS on Oracle Solaris (versions 10, 11)
- Oracle Virtual environment (LDOMS, ZFS file systems, zones/containers)
- DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes (AKS, ARO) Technologies, and cloud services
- Experience with J2EE Technologies, Java Servlet, EJB, HTML, JavaScript, JSP, SSL/HTTPS, Oracle RDBMS, Unix Shell scripting, Python, Windows Server, IIS, and IBM MQ series
- Experience deploying application code using change management processes and TFS version management software
- Experience configuring and managing COTS products (e.g., Client DocuShare, OpenText, Liquid Office, Client Quality Center, Tableau, ESRI ArcGIS)
- Knowledge of tools and techniques for recognizing and resolving technical (hardware, software, application) problems
- Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and perform in a high-paced, high-pressure environment
