Oracle SQL Analyst
About the role
This role is heavily focused on working directly with normalized Oracle transactional databases to extract, analyze, validate, automate, and maintain operational data. This is not a Business Intelligence, Data Warehouse, or Dashboard Development role. The ideal candidate must be highly proficient in writing complex Oracle SQL and PL/SQL from scratch, understanding relational database structures, and solving complex business problems through direct database analysis. Candidates should be comfortable identifying the appropriate database tables, relationships, joins, and business rules without relying on semantic models, visual query tools, pre-built datasets, or AI-generated SQL.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain complex Oracle SQL and PL/SQL programs.
- Design and write efficient SQL queries from scratch against large normalized Oracle transactional databases.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into high-performing SQL solutions.
- Identify appropriate tables, joins, relationships, and business rules to answer complex analytical questions.
- Extract, validate, transform, and analyze operational data for reporting, executive requests, grants, and research initiatives.
- Develop and maintain automated SQL jobs, scheduled processes, and recurring data refreshes.
- Troubleshoot SQL scripts, database jobs, and resolve data quality issues.
- Create reusable, optimized, and well-documented SQL code.
- Support recurring operational reports, KPIs, legislative reporting, and research activities.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and communicate analytical insights.
- Provide support for Tableau dashboards and other data visualization initiatives when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL.
- Experience writing complex SQL queries from scratch against normalized Oracle transactional databases.
- Ability to independently analyze business requirements and convert them into SQL-based solutions.
- Strong understanding of database normalization, relational database design, complex joins, performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Experience developing stored procedures, functions, packages, and database jobs.
- Ability to troubleshoot SQL scripts and resolve data integrity issues.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience supporting operational reporting and executive data requests.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting Tableau reporting environments.
- Experience with scheduled database automation and recurring reporting processes.
- Knowledge of KPI reporting, legislative reporting, and research analytics.
- Ability to work directly with business users and translate functional requirements into technical SQL solutions.
Important Notes: This role is 70–80% Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development. Candidates with primarily Business Intelligence, ETL, Data Warehouse, Power BI, or Dashboard development backgrounds are not the right fit unless they possess strong hands-on Oracle SQL coding experience. The client is specifically seeking professionals who can independently build SQL solutions from the ground up using transactional Oracle databases.
