About the role
The Middleware Engineer is responsible for implementing, administering, monitoring, and troubleshooting middleware platforms that enable application integration, API delivery, messaging, and identity/access flows. This role partners with application, infrastructure, network, and security teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and secure middleware services across development, test, and production environments.
Responsibilities
- Implement, administer, and monitor middleware platforms.
- Troubleshoot issues across application, JVM, network, and TLS layers.
- Partner with application, infrastructure, network, and security teams.
- Deliver reliable, scalable, and secure middleware services.
- Maintain clear documentation and operational rigor.
- Utilize an automation-first approach to tasks.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience.
- 3-6+ years of experience in middleware, platform engineering, or application operations.
- Strong Linux/Unix administration skills and scripting (bash; Python preferred).
- Experience administering at least one middleware stack (application server, messaging platform, API gateway, or integration runtime).
- Oracle Middleware.
Preferred Qualifications
- Application servers: WebLogic/Fusion Middleware/Analytics server; clustering and load balancing.
- Messaging/streaming: Java Message Service (JMS); schema registry and consumer lag concepts.
- API management: Apigee/Kong/MuleSoft/WSO2; API security policies and rate limiting.
- Containers: Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift; service mesh basics (Istio/Linkerd).
- Observability: Splunk/ELK, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace/AppDynamics.
- Cloud: AWS/Azure/GCP/OCI; managed messaging/API services experience.
