About the Role

This position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards. The role is accountable for the quality of nursing services delivered by self or others under their direction, utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to provide and evaluate care appropriate to patients' physical and developmental age.

Responsibilities

• Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs.
• Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family, ensuring completion within the appropriate timeframe.
• Reviews available information from other health care team members, diagnostics, and laboratory data; reports abnormal results to physicians and appropriate caregivers.
• Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and policy.
• Formulates a plan of care, including discharge planning, using assessment data and input from the patient, family, and health team.
• Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data, and the medical plan of care, ensuring goals are realistic and measurable.
• Considers physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age-specific, and educational needs in the plan of care.
• Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to plan and review care, revising as needed based on patient status.
• Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the health care team.
• Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, complying with policies, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Promotes continuity of care by accurately communicating patient status to other caregivers.
• Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, revising the plan of care as needed.
• Evaluates patient progress toward goals and outcomes in collaboration with the health care team.
• Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record, ensuring legibility, timeliness, and accuracy.
• Provides care based on best evidence available and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.
• Participates in department or facility shared leadership, education, role development, and orientation of personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors.
• Promotes growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriate.
• Contributes to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care, including participation in professional organizations.
• May provide relief charge for staff and workflow management in some locations.
• Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
• Demonstrates core and leader behaviors consistently to provide an excellent service experience.

Requirements

• Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing, or higher, required.
• Current, valid RN license in the state of practice, temporary RN license, or compact RN licensure for the current state of practice.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• PALS certification required within 90 days of start date if assigned to pediatric ASC services.
• Minimum one-year licensed RN experience in OR (other procedural areas considered with Support Center Clinical Educator approval).
• Licensed RN with no OR experience must be enrolled in the PeriOp101 program with successful completion within 4 months.

Preferred Qualifications

• Additional OR or perioperative licensed RN experience is strongly preferred.
