About the role
Southpoint Surgery Center (SPSC) is a new Ambulatory Surgery Center located in the Durham-Southpoint area. SPSC provides a differentiated outpatient delivery model focusing on high-quality, cost-effective solutions for surgical and related ancillary care. The facility accommodates a range of specialties including Ortho, Spine, Ophthalmology, ENT, GYN, General, Urology, Plastics, Podiatry, Vascular, and Pain.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient, demonstrating an extensive knowledge base to support a variety of single and multi-system illnesses and/or injuries.
- Control the environment within the surgical suite and accept responsibility for developing and coordinating a safe plan of care utilizing standards of practice and within the framework of set forth by the policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate appropriate application of age-specific standards, policies, and procedures and guidelines in caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care, collaborating with the patient/family and implementing the plan in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner.
- Communicate effectively, remain highly organized, and prioritize tasks to maintain patient safety.
- Document patient care in the patient record according to established standards of nursing care.
- Participate in and promote the Universal Protocol and time-out procedure in every procedure.
- Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, physician’s assistants, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, Radiology, and other OR team members to plan for the care of the patient and to provide for the optimal outcome for the patient.
- Assess patients' needs throughout the peri-operative experience and adjust the plan of care accordingly, communicating changes to all team members.
- Participate in performance improvement activities, including collecting, analyzing data to identify quantifiable measures to maintain quality and promote desired outcomes.
- Contribute to the development of patient care delivery systems, standards, policies, and procedures, and problem-solving teams.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or compact multi-state license.
- BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire.
- ACLS & PALS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) preferred; must obtain both certifications within 6 months of hire if certification(s) is/are currently not active.
- CNOR Certification strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with instruments and equipment related to Perioperative Nursing.
