OR Lead RN

Core Duties and Responsibilities

• Performs as an Operating Room Nurse circulating and scrubbing on surgical procedures
• Reviews initial assessment when patient is admitted to the operating room, verifying correct procedure, completed permit, history and physical, and laboratory data in accordance with hospital policy
• Uses professional judgment to determine the physical, psychological and social needs of the patient
• Documents intraoperative care given in the operating room
• Makes daily staff assignments, coordinates the flow of the OR schedule, with Operating Room Associates, Outpatient Associates, PACU associates, Anesthesiologists, Nurse Anesthesia, Surgeons, other nursing professionals, Patient and Patient's Family
• Demonstrates competency in technical and clinical skills, completes skills check list and correctly performs these skills
• Utilizes PHS/MSM System for Real Time Scheduler, as well as scheduling and printing PHS schedules
• Schedules cases for surgery through the use of the PHS system
• Meets with Department Managers and Medical staff to establish standards, requirements and specification for care of surgical patients
• Provides clinical and professional input into Departmental projects
• Participates in OR administrative call

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties through the work shift
• Must be able to lift, move and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis

Skills and Abilities

• Must possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills
• Must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Must be able to read and write legibly in English
• Must have math skills to enable calculation of drug dosages and infusion rates
• Must have the ability to make sound, independent judgments based on scientific principles, and also be able to collaborate with other multi-disciplinary team members in an appropriate fashion
• Must have effective reading and comprehension skills
