About the Role

Under the general direction of the Receiver’s Medical Executive, the Optometrist conducts eye examinations using observation and instruments to determine visual acuity, perception, focus, and coordination, and to diagnose diseases and abnormalities. The role includes maintaining order, supervising inmate conduct, and ensuring the safety of persons and property.

Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) requires full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 19 (and related Excluded, Exempt, and Statutory Exempt employees) to have their base salary reduced by 3% and receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same conditions on a prorated basis.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity, perception, focus, and coordination.
  • Diagnose eye diseases and abnormalities using observation and specialized instruments.
  • Maintain order and supervise the conduct of inmates to ensure safety and security.
  • Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property within the correctional facility.
