About the role

Located at Pelican Bay State Prison (PBSP) in Crescent City, CA (Del Norte County), this part‑time Optometrist position works 20 hours per week. The facility provides constitutional medical, dental, and mental health care to a diverse correctional population, with six daily outpatient primary care clinics, a 24/7 Correctional Treatment Center, and a 24/7 Urgent Treatment Area. Responsibilities

• Conduct eye examinations using observation and instruments to determine visual acuity, perception, focus, and coordination, and diagnose diseases or abnormalities.
• Maintain order and supervise the conduct of incarcerated persons.
• Protect and maintain the safety of persons and property.

Requirements

• Must first take and pass the examination to obtain list eligibility for the Optometrist, Correctional Facility position.

Pay

The monthly salary range for this position is $3,892.00 to $5,160.00. Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces base salary by 3 % for full‑time employees in Bargaining Unit 19 (and related excluded/exempt/statutory‑exempt staff); part‑time employees are subject to the same reduction on a prorated basis equivalent to their time‑base, and permanent intermittent employees based on hours worked in the pay period.
