Vision To Learn is the largest school-based vision care nonprofit in the country, addressing the premise that if you can’t see, you can’t learn. We provide eye exams and glasses to students in underserved communities at no cost to families, helping children succeed in school and life. Founded in Los Angeles in 2012, we have expanded nationwide, delivering over 3.8 million vision screenings, 800,000 eye exams, and 650,000 pairs of prescription glasses in the last decade.
About the role
Vision To Learn seeks compassionate, mission-driven optometrists to provide high-quality eye exams and deliver glasses to students in underserved communities, removing vision barriers that affect learning and long-term opportunities. This part-time, contract position offers a flexible schedule with no federal holidays, no nights, and no weekends (except for rare voluntary exceptions).
Responsibilities
- Provide vision evaluations: check visual acuity, assess binocular vision, intraocular pressure, pupils, perform full refractions, and prescribe appropriate correction.
- Assess ocular health and prescribe vision devices.
- Test patients on applicable equipment to determine suitability and instruct them on proper use.
- Ensure patient diagnoses are properly documented in internal systems.
Requirements
- Active Delaware Optometry License.
- Flexibility to commute throughout the greater Sussex County area.
- Must pass Department of Justice background check (LiveScan) and drug test.
- Proven track record of quality patient care with a positive, proactive attitude.

Clearance Requirements
- Department of Justice background check/fingerprinting (LiveScan).
- Child abuse history clearance.
- TB test and drug test.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Optometry (Required).
- Optometry License (Required).
Pay
$100 per hour.
Schedule
Part-time, contract. No federal holidays, no nights, and no weekends (except for rare voluntary exceptions). Mileage reimbursement provided.
