Vision To Learn is the largest school-based vision care nonprofit in the country, providing eye exams and glasses to students in underserved communities at no cost to families. Founded in Los Angeles in 2012, we have expanded nationwide, delivering over 3.8 million vision screenings, 800,000 eye exams, and 650,000 prescription glasses in the last decade.
About the role
Vision To Learn seeks compassionate, mission-driven optometrists to provide high-quality eye exams and deliver glasses to students in underserved communities. As part of a mobile clinical team, you’ll remove vision barriers that affect learning and long-term opportunities in a flexible, part-time contract position.
Responsibilities
- Provide vision evaluations: check visual acuity, assess binocular vision, intraocular pressure, pupils, perform full refraction, prescribe appropriate correction, and assess ocular health.
- Prescribe vision devices, conduct applicable tests to determine suitability, and instruct patients on proper use.
- Ensure accurate documentation of patient diagnoses in internal systems.
Requirements
- Active Iowa Optometry License.
- Flexibility to commute throughout Black Hawk, Dubuque, Jones, Marion, Polk, and Scott Counties.
- Must pass Department of Justice background check (LiveScan) and drug test.
- Proven track record of quality patient care with a proactive, positive attitude.

Clearance Requirements
- Department of Justice background check/fingerprinting (LiveScan).
- Child abuse history clearance.
- TB test and drug screening.
Pay
$80–$90 per hour.
Schedule
- Part-time, contract position.
- No federal holidays.
- No nights or weekends (with rare voluntary exceptions).
- Mileage reimbursement provided.
