Responsibilities
- Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye, and associated structures.
- Provides comprehensive primary eye care, including examination, diagnosis, and treatment of ocular diseases and disorders.
- Provides emergency ocular care in outpatient and inpatient settings.
Requirements
This is a competitive vacancy announcement advertised under Delegated Examining Authority. Selections made under this vacancy announcement will be processed as new appointments to the civil service. Current civil service employees would therefore be given new appointments to the civil service; however, benefits, time served, and all other Federal entitlements would remain the same.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Optometry from an accredited program.
- A current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- One year of professional experience as an optometrist that is equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level.
- Specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtaining in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
- Provided primary eye care services by performing comprehensive ocular examinations.
- Developed treatment plans, prescribed corrective lenses and therapeutic medications.
- Evaluated and managed patients presenting with acute and chronic eye diseases.
Pay, Schedule, and Benefits
Pay scale and grade determines the salary of the job. Work schedule includes multiple schedules. Travel is occasional.
