Optometrist

About the role

The optometrist will conduct eye exams for Acuity Eyecare group and strive to practice to the full capacity of their license. The optometrist will support practice growth by establishing patient relationships and educating patients on eye care.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye exams
• Establish long-term patient relationships through proper patient care and education
• Perform verbal interviews with patients to determine health and ocular history, medical issues, reasons for their visit, and their visual wants and needs
• Instruct, recommend, and advise patients on options for remediation of ametropias, systemic and ocular disease, and visual needs
• Hand off patients to support staff with a recap discussion
• Generate patient loyalty and promote the profession of optometry and Acuity Eyecare Group values
• Perform vision tests and analyze results
• Diagnose sight problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and eye diseases
• Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications
• Recommend or provide treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation (brand-specific)
• Provide pre- and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery, including examining patients the day after cataract or refractive surgery
• Evaluate patients for systemic diseases such as diabetes and refer them to other healthcare providers as needed
• Promote eye health by counseling patients, including explaining how to clean and wear contact lenses and how often to have their eyes examined
• Clearly communicate recommendations to opticians and sales staff for the best possible lenses with the latest high-technology coatings and designs

Requirements

• Doctorate of Optometry from a credentialed institution
• Must have passed all optometric state boards
