Responsibilities
- Conducts pre-testing procedures, assists with specialty diagnostic testing, performs post-exam tasks, and manages the doctor’s appointment schedule.
- Performs preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exam by the Optometrist, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
- Verbal interview with patient prior to visit with Optometrist to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit to provide details to Optometrist.
- May be required to schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and complete paperwork.
- Records and maintains patient records / files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
- Responds to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, problems referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
- May be required to perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.).
- Documents medical findings and communication between Optometrist and patient in Electronic Health Records (EHR) and assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation (participating practices only).
- Checking CPT codes, billings for post op, office visit etc.
- Schedules and confirms appointments, contacts patients from recall listings, cancels no-shows or canceled patients to reschedule.
- Performs contact lens insertion and removal classes (I&R) and manages the contact lens trial inventory, check-in and take contact lens orders in person or by phone.
- Performs end-of-day responsibilities to include opti-schedule wrap-up, end-of-day checklist, etc.
- Cleans and organizes frame boards, displays, mirrors, work bench, office area, maintaining overall cleanliness and visual appeal of the practice.
- May be asked to act as a scribe for the Optometrist or perform refractions.
- Performs other duties within the practice as requested.
Qualifications
- High School or GED qualification.
- Strong attention to the details and ability to work under pressure in fast-paced environment.
- PC skills to include MC Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively and professionally collaborate with co-workers and patients.
