About the role
We are seeking an early-career engineer with a proven track record of solving complex technical problems to join our team. This role is designed for individuals passionate about optimizing the electric grid and contributing to the development of AI infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Build optimization and simulation software for large-scale electric grid planning and operations.
- Develop models and algorithms for resource scheduling, network constraints, system reliability, and large-scale operational planning.
- Translate mathematical concepts into practical, tested, and maintainable code.
- Analyze computational performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and enhance software reliability.
- Learn, customize, and refine optimization algorithms.
- Work with real-world data and constraints from large physical systems.
- Collaborate across various disciplines including software engineering, applied AI, and power systems.
- Take responsibility for significant modeling and optimization challenges.
Requirements
- A Master's degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative field such as engineering, computer science, applied math, physics, or operations research.
- Strong foundational knowledge in mathematics, algorithms, and software engineering.
- Experience writing production-quality code in languages like Python or Julia.
- Experience with optimization solvers, simulation tools, and large-scale numerical workflows.
- The ability to reason from first principles and rapidly learn new technical areas.
- Effective debugging, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Proficiency in leveraging modern AI tools and workflows to accelerate model development, experimentation, and software engineering.
Qualifications
- 1-5 years of industry experience, or equivalent applied research experience, in optimization, modeling, simulation, or scientific software development.
- Exposure to power systems, energy markets, or the utility industry.
- Experience with optimization, operations research, numerical methods, scientific computing, or large-scale infrastructure systems.
- Interest in electricity infrastructure, climate, energy, or industrial AI.
