Optician - Optical - Per Diem

About the Role

Join Guthrie as a per diem Optician supporting multiple Specialty Eye Care offices in the Bath, NY area. This position may require travel between locations and offers shifts between 8am-5pm, Monday through Friday, as needed.

Responsibilities

• Accurately interpret optical prescriptions (lenses and contacts) and take all measurements for fitting eyewear, guiding patients in selecting appropriate options.
• Perform final inspection of eyewear to American National Standards Institute specifications, deliver, and adjust eyewear according to departmental standards.
• Complete optical shop duties, including product repairs and eyewear manufacturing.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of all optical products, services, and associated offerings.
• Provide contact lens training (insertion, removal, cleaning) and ensure appropriate contact lens fitting fees are charged.
• Coordinate with the Optical Supervisor to maintain an up-to-date, market-appropriate frame selection, inventory, and product offerings within budget.
• Maintain knowledge of price lists, product policies, insurance requirements, and encounter completion processes.
• Apply optical pricing formulas correctly, calculate and document charges, insurance allowances, and discounts on optical patient encounters.
• Obtain necessary waivers and explain optical charges/billing to patients as needed.
• Ensure the care and upkeep of optical equipment and supplies, maintaining a clean and organized work area.
• Provide consultation to ophthalmologists, optometrists, opticians, patients, and billing personnel via phone or in person.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including training new staff.

Requirements

• New York Ophthalmic Dispensing License is required.
• Applied Science degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing is preferred.
• American Board of Opticianry Certification is preferred.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in an optical setting as an optician apprentice or optician.

Pay

The pay range for this position is $21.89 - $35.16/hour based on experience.
