About the role

Major Responsibilities include interpreting prescriptions, assisting patients with eyewear selection, taking optical measurements, fitting eyewear, instructing on cleaning and handling eyewear, repairing and adjusting lenses and frames, inspecting eyewear for quality, maintaining patient records, filing charges, and preparing reports.

  • Takes optical measurements.
  • Measures and fits all eyewear.
  • Instructs patients on cleaning and handling eyewear.
  • Evaluates patients with assistance in lens type based on their needs.
  • Repairs, adjusts and dispenses prescription lenses and frames.
  • Inspects all eyewear to ensure quality before dispensing to patient.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Fills out records, including patient charges and applicable third-party coverage of eyewear.
  • Aids in the preparation and writing of reports, including daily deposits, inventory reports, and other reports as needed.

Requirements

Requires 1 year of experience in an optician role that includes dispensing eyeglasses, knowledge of equipment, lenses, frames, and new optometry technology.

  • Basic computer skills including experience using mainframe or personal computer, which includes Microsoft Office and Windows applications.
  • Good customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with staff and patients through personal contact, telephone, and writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and other allied health care personnel.
  • High school graduate.

Qualifications

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: None required.

  • Education Required: High School Graduate.

Skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required include basic computer skills, good customer service and communication skills, ability to communicate clearly with staff and patients, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, ability to read, interpret and apply departmental policies and procedures, ability to apply written guidelines and work practices to make decisions and solve problems, skilled in the instruction of cleaning and handling eyewear.

Pay

Pay Range: $22.90 - $34.35

Schedule

Hours Per Week: 40
Schedule Details/Additional Information: Monday-Friday hours vary between 8am and 5:30pm, some travel may be required to cover other locations.
