Gain hands-on and analytical experience with optics and optical systems as part of inter-disciplinary teams focused on complex optical system design, manufacture, test, and alignment. There is potential to see complex opto-electronic systems through the entire development cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Perform optical analyses of individual optics or optical systems using commercial and in-house software.
  • Collaborate with individuals from other disciplines (e.g., systems, mechanical, thermal).
  • Present analyses to small groups of internal and external customers.
  • Document and review procedures used to manufacture and test optics and optical systems.
  • Use optical modeling software (Zemax, Code V, FRED, others) to model optical system performance.
  • Work directly with other organizations to oversee testing of optics or optical systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, ideally Optical Engineering or Optical Science, though Physics or Electrical Engineering will be considered.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated detailed knowledge of basic optical concepts (imaging, wavefront error, first-order optics).
  • Basic skill in Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
  • Ability to work primarily onsite in Danbury as part of a team.
  • History of working as a leader in a small technical team to solve problems.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Desired Qualifications

At least one of the following must be demonstrated:

  • Direct experience designing optical systems using Code V, Zemax, or other software.
  • Direct experience testing optical components or systems using standard methods.
  • Detailed knowledge of physical optics, Fourier Transforms, pupil functions, or point-spread functions.

What You Can Expect

  • A culture of integrity, placing character and innovation at the center of everything.
  • An environment of trust, valuing unique contributions and providing autonomy through flexible time off and robust learning resources.
  • A focus on continuous growth, advancing critical missions and building on a strong legacy of success.
