About the Role
This position will serve in the Florida Department of Health in Bay County (DOH Bay) Dental Bus Program to provide preventative dental services to children, including oral health assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride. The role requires effective communication with school principals and community organizations, oral health education with children, data entry, and entering clinical services into Eaglesoft and HMS. Knowledge of dental equipment and the ability to track inventory are essential. This position requires travel in Bay and Gulf Counties.
Responsibilities
- Provide preventative dental services, including oral assessments, oral hygiene instructions, sealants, and fluoride treatments.
- Prepare and teach dental presentations in schools.
- Provide a summary of services for the FLOSS survey.
- Case management of children with urgent needs and increase referrals to dental homes for children in need of services.
- Assist with preparing orders and inventory control for the Dental Bus Program.
- Maintain records and enter clinical and billing services into Eaglesoft and HMS.
- Travel to schools and other locations on a regular basis.
- Ability to work in a fixed dental clinic, as needed.
- Attend and participate in staff development, such as team/staff meetings and in-service training/continuing education.
- Participate in disaster-related duties as directed.
- Maintain timely submission of Employee Activity Report and timesheets.
- Provide backup support to other dental staff, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Willingness to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency, including working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter or performing other emergency duties.
- Registered Dental Hygienist license in accordance with F.S. 466.
- Dental Radiography certificate.
- Experience applying preventative sealants.
- Experience working with children.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a school-based sealant program.
- Experience working with the FLOSS program.
Skills
- Knowledge of dental hygiene principles, practices, and procedures.
- Knowledge of dental terminology.
- Skill in operating dental instruments and equipment.
- Skill in performing dental prophylaxis.
- Ability to use a personal computer and standard software applications.
- Ability to use correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Ability to educate patients on dental care techniques.
- Ability to operate general office equipment.
- Ability to follow established office procedures and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively and interact professionally with parents, students, community members, school administrators, school health staff, and teachers.
- Ability to travel, work a flexible schedule, and work independently and efficiently to meet program goals and objectives.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Pay
$31.00 hourly
