About the Role
The OPS Audio/Visual Assistant supports events in the Student Union, Student Services Building, Askew Student Life Center, and other locations managed by Campus Event Services. This role involves setup, operation, and maintenance of audiovisual systems and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Setup and operation of audiovisual systems for events.
- Maintain accurate inventory of audiovisual equipment, including microphones, microphone stands, audio consoles, speakers, projectors, televisions, cabling (XLR, auxiliary, ¼ inch, HDMI, SDI, DMX, etc.), adapters, lights, lighting consoles, and batteries.
- Ensure all audiovisual equipment is in good working order; report any equipment or systems needing repair to your direct supervisor.
- Send detailed messages to the Campus Event Services professional staff as needed.
- Assist in building set-up as required; must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
- Attend all Campus Event Services Staff Meetings and Training Workshops.
- Assist with Campus Event Services operations by answering questions related to space requests and routing questions to the correct professional staff member when additional assistance is needed.
- Be familiar with the Campus Event Services Terms & Conditions, rates, and Mazevo space requesting system. More information can be found on the Campus Event Services website and in the Event Planning Guides provided at each information desk location.
- Become familiar with Campus Event Services web resources and databases, including Microsoft Teams, WhenToWork scheduling, Mazevo, the shared Google Drive, and the Lost & Found online database.
- Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and some semester and holiday breaks (as needed).
- Engage in duties otherwise assigned by the event support manager on duty or your direct supervisor.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent (post high-school education and/or experience may substitute at a comparable rate).
- At least one year of prior employment experience with audiovisual services is highly desirable.
- Excellent working knowledge of audiovisual equipment, including the use and maintenance of audio consoles (digital and analog), laptops, projectors, lighting control boards, and live production equipment.
- Ability to identify and properly use audio cables, including microphone XLRs, auxiliary cords, ¼-inch cords, and adapters.
- Currently enrolled full-time in classes at Florida State University in good academic standing with at least a 2.5 GPA.
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. and meet the physical demands of the job.
- Must be willing and able to work in a team and be adaptable to rapidly changing situations and new information.
- Good leadership, interpersonal, and communications skills, with a focus on excellent customer service.
Pay
The hourly rate for this position is $14.00.
