Ophthalmic Technician – Scribe (Travel Required)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Ophthalmic terminology and equipment.
  • Absorb and document the physician's plan for any testing that needs to be completed.
  • Complete visual field testing and other tests as ordered by the physician.
  • Question patient(s) about their chief complaint and document it in the EHR software.
  • Review and update the medical history and medication list in the EHR software.
  • Conduct a visual assessment of distance and near vision.
  • Dilate and evaluate pupils and eye muscles.
  • Conduct patient refraction and tonometry as needed.
  • Prepare patients for laser procedures.
  • Set up and maintain the surgical suite using proper sterile technique.
  • Assist the physician with minor procedures and clean up the surgical suite afterward.
  • Obtain prior authorizations for refills and refill prescriptions as directed by the physician.
  • Clean and maintain all tech areas, exam rooms, physician areas, and patient waiting rooms.
  • Assist the physician with surgical procedures at the Surgery Center as needed.
  • Answer patient and doctor calls, fax reports, and coordinate post-operative visits.
  • Ensure quality care of all patients seen at all locations.
  • Report any medical equipment dysfunction to the appropriate parties.
  • Check "desk duties" to ensure everything is completed before leaving for the day.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned to operate the clinic effectively and efficiently.
  • Participate in interdepartmental duties as necessary, including duties with the clinical supervisor, clinic team lead, administrators, and doctors.
  • Provide assistance to other clinic personnel as needed.

  • Maintain practice and patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Exhibit a professional demeanor at all times while representing the practice.
  • Maintain a professional level and volume of communication.
  • Participate in staff and educational meetings and training.

Qualifications

  • Required Qualifications:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent GED.
    • At least three to five years' experience as an Ophthalmic Technician.
    • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent customer service skills.
    • Ability to work independently but also work effectively with others as a team to accomplish objectives and goals.
    • Demonstrate self-motivation, initiative, and time management skills.
    • Ability to multi-task and follow strict schedules.
    • Travel to ALL locations which include Conroe, The Woodlands, and Huntsville as needed.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT).
    • Bilingual.

Please note, candidates without experience working in an ophthalmology practice will not be considered for this position.
