About the role
(ECNF) offers a variety of services including Lipiflow Dry Eye Treatment, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Optos Retinal Imaging, Macular Degeneration, Genetic Testing-Macula Risk Testing, Drop less Cataract Surgery, Refractive procedures, cosmetic specialties, contact lenses, and an optical shop. The ophthalmic technician assists the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data about the patient's ocular health.
Responsibilities
- Assist in gathering data about the patient’s ocular health status.
- Perform clinical tests as directed by the doctor, based on patient complaints and history.
- Act as a medical scribe during physician examinations, entering data into electronic medical records.
- Take an ocular and systemic history and record visual acuity.
- Administer topical or oral medications under the physician’s direction.
- Absorb and assist with simple in-office procedures, ensuring informed consent is obtained.
- Aid in patient education.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms.
- Comply with all practice procedures and protocols, including documentation requirements for quality reporting and testing frequency restrictions.
- Inventory and supply needs to leadership, providing timely updates for supply ordering.
- Complete work/school excuses and provide medication instructions to patients.
- Report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
- Contribute to the team effort by completing additional tasks or projects as needed.
- Maintain a positive attitude, characterized by cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
Requirements
- Intermediate comprehension and ability to complete each skill as required based on iJCAHPO training and general understanding of technician skills.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as an uncertified ophthalmic assistant.
- COA eligibility preferred.
- Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
