About the role
Responsible for assisting the ophthalmologist and optometrists by gathering data pertaining to the patient’s ocular health status. The ophthalmic technician is proficient in performing appropriate clinical tests, drawing on formal education and/or clinical experience that provide a solid understanding of the theory and principles of eye care.
Responsibilities
- Clinical Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
- Perform testing ordered by doctor and determined by the type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and/or patient history.
- Ability to act as a medical scribe while physician examines patient, entering data into electronic medical records.
- Takes an ocular and systemic history and accurately records visual acuity.
- Administers topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
- Absists with simple in-office procedures ensures proper informed consent is obtained.
- Aids with patient education.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the workday.
- Complies with all practice procedures and protocols.
- Complies with all State and Federal regulations.
Requirements
- Nextech/ICP experience strongly preferred.
- Ophthalmic and/or optometric technician experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or the equivalent, with years related experience preferred.
Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Skills
- Proficient in performing clinical tests.
- Ability to act as a medical scribe.
- Knowledge of ophthalmic and optometric practices.
