About the role
The Ophthalmic Technician Specialist works up patients for physicians that includes taking medical history, performing initial examination and completing diagnostic testing.
Responsibilities
- Takes medical history, performs initial examination and diagnostic testing independently.
- Must obtain Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Certified Ophthalmic Technologist (COMT) within 18 months of hire.
- Takes two (2) years of experience performing initial ophthalmic examinations and diagnostic testing.
- Four (4) years of experience in an academic medical environment is preferred.
- Must be willing to work at all office locations.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and walk distances.
- Must have strong recall, reasoning, problem-solving skills, hearing, speaking clearly, writing legibly, reading, logical thinking, fast-paced environment handling multiple priorities, adapting to frequent change, noisy environment, and frequent and intense customer interactions.
Requirements
- Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Hire: Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) certification at least at the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) level.
- Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Requirements For Continued Employment: CPR.
Qualifications
- Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma / GED.
- Education/training PREFERRED: Bachelor's Degree in Health Science or related field.
