About the role
The Ophthalmic Technician provides assessment information to the physician who is treating the patient. They participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care to a select group of patients. Technicians are involved in basic and advanced ophthalmic procedures that aid the physician in the diagnosis of acute and chronic conditions of the eye.
Responsibilities
- Attains thorough and accurate patient and family history.
- Performs physical eye exam, measure the eyes optical system, visual fields, basic ocular motility and other vision and diagnostic tests.
- Takes ocular and systemic history.
- Accurately records visual acuity.
- Collections ophthalmic measurements and other diagnostic information.
- Plans and organizes patient care tasks to ensure optimal time and resource utilization.
- Aids physicians in performing ophthalmic procedures.
- Prepares and administers eye medications.
- Provides eye care and contact lens information to patient.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
- Associate's Degree in a related field of study (recommended).
- High School Diploma/GED, or 2 years of experience in lieu of a diploma/GED (required).
Qualifications
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)

Schedule
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm (40 hrs/wk).
