Operators

About the Role

The operator works under the direction of area management and is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the area equipment (heat exchangers, absorbers, reactors, pumps). The operator must produce product to specification required for each customer product.

Responsibilities

• Charges the various raw materials into reactors and transfers products to appropriate storage vessels.
• Operates area equipment to produce in-spec material for each product, staying within operating limits.
• Diagnoses mechanical and process upsets, adjusting abnormal situations to controlled operations.
• Opens valves, starts pumps, and records operational data in log books and transfer slips.
• Inputs data into AS 400/Infinium and Microsoft Dynamics AX as needed.
• Operates a forklift and trains new operators once certified on the process.
• Maintains cleanliness of the control room, office, and work areas.
• Patrols and inspects units to detect leaks, monitor conditions, and shut down equipment if necessary.
• Assists in cleaning spills during transfer, manufacture, or related activities.
• Takes samples and transfers them to QC for testing.
• Troubleshoots equipment and process problems while monitoring gauges and indicators.
• Performs safety inspections, including eye wash stations, safety showers, hazardous waste areas, and labeling.
• Communicates information to management and co-workers via telephone, email, or in person.
• Follows emergency procedures and performs housekeeping duties, including emptying trash dumpsters.
• Operates equipment safely and notifies maintenance of malfunctions.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED).
• Ability to work any shift, including weekends, overtime, holidays, with workdays from 8-12 hours.
• Must pass a 12-minute timed test measuring problem-solving, instruction comprehension, and knowledge application.
• Ability to perform physical activities requiring whole-body movement (reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials).
• Occasionally lift, push, or pull 50 lb and handle 500 lb drums through mechanical means.
• Ability to work at heights, climb stairs frequently, and climb railcar ladders occasionally.
• Must be able to wear a full-face respirator, supplied air, or an SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus).
