Qualifications
The Sugar Shelling Machine Operator role at Georgia Nut Company (GNC) is responsible for driving the manual sugar shelling conventional panning process to create high-quality finished goods while striving for continuous improvement. This role works closely with the operations team to run the shelling equipment in accordance with customer specifications, ensuring adherence to GNC’s 5S principles, completing necessary paperwork, reporting inefficiencies, maintaining accurate inventory, and following GNC’s General Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and sanitation/safety protocols.
- Report food and quality issues as well as employee safety to their supervisor.
- Follow allergen procedures and perform sanitation steps as trained.
- Follow all formulas and customer specifications as described in the billing of materials.
- Maintain 5S by keeping work area clean and organized.
- Validate transfers, consume correctly, and keep accurate inventory.
- Follow all general manufacturing practices (GMPs) and comply with GNC policies and procedures.
- Report scrap according to procedure and always run retain if needed.
- Present continuous improvement ideas to supervisor or department lead.
- Clock/tag in and out of proper departments as required.
- Start, stop, adjust, and operate machine using approved methods, supervisor/lead when repairs or adjustments are beyond the scope of their expertise.
- Train and assist other employees as needed.
Primary Responsibilities

Physical Requirements
- Must wear proper personal protective equipment including uniform, face mask, hair net, latex gloves, bump cap, earplugs, and safety shoes.
- Will be standing on concrete, bending, stooping, twisting, and turning for an extended period of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Required to work weekends during peak season and/or overtime when needed.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Well-organized with high attention to detail.
- Able to successfully prioritize workload.
- Able to perform basic math and reading skills, such as: reading labels, formulas, and directions.
- Able to perform basic knowledge of measurement, percentages, and ratios.
- Able to communicate and write effectively in English.
- Flexible working hours for a seven-day operation.
- Dependable and adaptable to a fast-paced work environment.
