About the role

Perform packaging procedures as required to fulfill the daily production plan, working closely with the Packaging Technician, Leads, and Team Leaders to coordinate incoming and outgoing product flow in the Packaging area.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the production lead, Team Leader, or Packaging Technician, package finished product to specification. Duties include hooking up, filling, and labeling supersacks in a centered position on each pallet so they correctly pass through a sizing curtain before being stored.
  • Coordinate with other Packers and Packaging Technicians to ensure the efficient performance of the packaging process.
  • Perform sanitation duties as required to maintain a clean and safe work area and environment at all times.
  • Comply with all safety regulations and follow Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Report all accidents/injuries and unsafe conditions to Team Leader.
  • Maintain any logs as required.
  • Safely use heavy material handling equipment such as fillers or electric pallet jacks.
  • Load slip sheets into packaging equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; or up to three months related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills (ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers and decimals).
  • Ability to retrieve data from a computer HMI (Human Machine Interface).
  • Ability to multitask; operate two fillers simultaneously.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment, especially food production, is helpful.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate clearly in English commensurate with the requirements of this position.

Skills

  • Must be able to stand for extended time periods, occasionally climb on ladders or other elevated structures.
  • Frequent above-the-shoulder work, bending, kneeling, twisting, and reaching.
  • Occasional pushing and pulling of filled supersacks using approximately 50 pounds of force.
  • Occasionally tandem lift up to 80 pounds.
  • Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to occasionally perform job duties in dusty conditions, with possible exposure to airborne particles that may cause minor skin and eye irritation (see MSDS).
  • Able to work safely in close proximity to moving mechanical parts and forklifts.
  • Able to occasionally work in high precarious places.

Pay

A reasonable hourly estimate for this role is $22.41. Actual compensation may be higher or lower in the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's work location, job duties, experience, and expertise.
