Location: Marietta Manufacturing site, part of the Laboratory Products Division within Thermo Fisher Scientific. Our laboratory equipment products are used primarily by pharmaceutical companies for drug discovery and development and by biotechnology companies and universities for life science research.
About the role
The Operator will support the manufacturing process by operating various machinery to provide high-quality parts for work cells to meet scheduled demands.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate machines on trial runs to verify accuracy of settings or programmed control data; continue operation to accomplish production goals.
- Calculate and set controls to supervise machines and enter commands to edit programs for quality production goals.
- Confirm accuracy of first setups regarding size, build, and forming sequence using test pieces and production pieces at intervals.
- Study blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance results; adjust controls as required.
- Troubleshoot work-related problems using knowledge and experience to maintain production and quality goals.
- Use the SAP computer system to track and accomplish production data.
- Measure, count, and coordinate materials and parts to monitor production quality and volume.
- Clean scale or scrap from dies with air hoses or brushes to achieve quality.
- Grind out burrs and sharp edges using portable grinders to achieve quality.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a manufacturing, operations, production, lab setting, or related field.
- Experience in a cGMP environment preferred.
Skills
- Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels, and work instructions.
- Computer and keyboarding skills.
- Familiarity or ability to read part drawings.
- Growth mindset and eagerness to learn.
- Ability to adhere to safety standards and work safely around moving equipment.
Environmental Conditions
- Able to lift 40 lbs. without assistance.
- Exposure to loud noises from equipment/machinery.
- Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gowning, gloves, lab coat, ear plugs, etc.).
- Standing for the full shift.
