Duties And Responsibilities

  • Prepare equipment specifications and construction contracts.
  • Provide technical input into the preparation and revision of electric generation policies, design criteria, construction standards, material and equipment lists, and cost estimates.
  • Carry out studies related to voltage regulation, load flow, fault current, sectionalizing and coordination, stability, and reliability.
  • Inspect electrical construction, major electrical equipment installations, and electrical equipment maintenance and operating procedures.
  • Offer technical advice and assistance to operating and maintenance sections, relay technicians, customers, consultants, and contractors.
  • Attend courses, seminars, and meetings to maintain/attain expertise in job functions.
  • Manage major utility electrical projects in the Power Resources area.
  • Prepare and verify work orders and supporting plans and specifications related to Power Resource facilities.
  • Perform or update the annual electrical maintenance plan and five-year capital improvement plan.

Essential Job Functions

  • Minimum qualifications: BSEE from an accredited curriculum in electrical engineering, minimum of three years in project management, engineering, or equivalent work experience, valid Minnesota driver's license, professional registration in state of Minnesota within two years of employment or promotion to position.
  • Special skills: Ability to communicate and work with technicians, management, consultants, contractors and customers, ability to define, organize, interpret, and communicate technical electrical information, proficient in use of word processing, spreadsheet, database software, preferably the Microsoft Suite, and engineering analysis software.
  • Desirable qualifications: Power generation emphasis within the electrical engineering major, more than three years in planning, design and/or operation of utility power system or in an industry related to electric utilities, EIT or Professional Engineer certification, special training in programming, protective relaying and coordination, electronics courses/seminars helpful, proficiency in use of electric utility engineering analysis software (load flow, short circuit, sag and tension, relay coordination, etc.).
