Operator in Training

About the role

The Operator in Training (OIT) position at Veolia is designed to support community workforce development and prepare candidates for careers as Wastewater Operators. This role involves hands-on training and experience in various facilities, including Jones Island Wastewater Reclamation Facility, South Shore Wastewater Reclamation Facility, and the Collection System.

Responsibilities

• Receive all applicable safety training (OSHA 10, Lockout-Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights and Aerial Lift Training, and Use of Powered Industrial Trucks)
• Follow all safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
• Utilize Job Safety Analyses and Mental Safety Assessments to identify and mitigate hazards
• Learn to use CMMS, data management programs, and SCADA systems
• Interpret and read technical communications and documentation
• Identify and troubleshoot equipment and machinery malfunctions
• Gain experience in Wastewater Operations
• Perform daily Operator Rounds
• Sample collection, lab analysis, and documentation
• Implement process control strategies
• Treatment of wastewater streams through mechanical, biological, and chemical processes

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or GED is required
• Basic machinery and hand tools experience is a plus
• A willingness to learn and an interest in a career in wastewater
• Ability to use computers and mobile devices to send and receive data
• Physical ability to meet job demands (e.g., exposure to dirt, dust, extreme temperatures, etc.)
• Effective communication and active listening skills
• Strong attention to safety
