About the role
The Operator in Training (OIT) position at Veolia is designed to support community workforce development and prepare candidates for careers as Wastewater Operators. This role involves hands-on training and experience in various facilities, including Jones Island Wastewater Reclamation Facility, South Shore Wastewater Reclamation Facility, and the Collection System.
Responsibilities
- Receive all applicable safety training (OSHA 10, Lockout-Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Working at Heights and Aerial Lift Training, and Use of Powered Industrial Trucks)
- Follow all safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Utilize Job Safety Analyses and Mental Safety Assessments to identify and mitigate hazards
- Learn to use CMMS, data management programs, and SCADA systems
- Interpret and read technical communications and documentation
- Identify and troubleshoot equipment and machinery malfunctions
- Gain experience in Wastewater Operations
- Perform daily Operator Rounds
- Sample collection, lab analysis, and documentation
- Implement process control strategies
- Treatment of wastewater streams through mechanical, biological, and chemical processes
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required
- Basic machinery and hand tools experience is a plus
- A willingness to learn and an interest in a career in wastewater
- Ability to use computers and mobile devices to send and receive data
- Physical ability to meet job demands (e.g., exposure to dirt, dust, extreme temperatures, etc.)
- Effective communication and active listening skills
- Strong attention to safety
