Operator III-CNC Operator
Job Summary
Implement the Production Fulfillment Process steps related to the fabrication of parts according to work order and customer requirements. Ensure machinery is set up, works properly, and conforms with (and can produce materials that conform with) company quality, quantity, and efficiency standards.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate multiple types of fabrication equipment: Set-up and operate CNC machining centers in multiple cells that include but are not limited to mills, lathes, presses, routers etc.
- Set up and operate various types of machine tools and perform progressive machining operations for parts, tools and machines with close to exacting tolerances
- Perform advanced setup operations
- Adjust and check out programming
- Set up machines for and instruct other operators
- Work with team leads and management personnel to lead teams and projects of varying scope and work cells
- Place and secure work pieces in proper machine table, holding device, or other appropriate surface using clamps and wrenches
- Load, operate and manufacture a variety of parts using CNC machining centers to make custom parts according to customer orders and instructions
- Follow written instructions from internal and external customers and interpret basic to intermediate blueprint specifications
- Perform work independently with minimal defects
- Basic recognition of tooling and procedures within established tolerances
- Complete work order paperwork
- Checks parts for conformance to customer specifications
- Maintain count and perform packaging duties as required
- Participate in cross training activities to become knowledgeable of equipment/process within the department
- Perform routine daily machine maintenance including cleaning up and lubrication
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Provide guidance, feedback and positive behavior modeling
Qualifications and Competencies
- Requires a broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures.
- Communicate with supervisor on work order priority
- Open to change due to emergency orders or fabrication of parts
- Basic to intermediate math skills and/or aptitudes
- Able to use basic measuring instruments
- Excellent problem solving skills
- Must be able to work overtime as needed
Education And Experience
Typically requires 5+ years of combined formal training and experience, or equivalent. A High School Diploma or GED with prior hands on, vocational or job-related course work/training, or any similar combination of education and experience is required. Prior experience in a manufacturing industry is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee is may be required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
- The employee is regularly required to stand; walk and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
- The work environment is typical of most shop environments; not climate controlled and subject to outdoor weather conditions.
- Team members are exposed to sounds and noise levels that are distracting.
- Frequent exposure to fumes/dust particles; may require use of respirators or other types of PPE.
- May come in contact with toxic or caustic chemicals.
