Operator I

Position Purpose

Perform job duties in a safe manner compliant with policies, procedures and practices. Work flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends and holidays. Operate and monitor all control systems. Perform anaerobic digestion process control and preventative maintenance functions. Perform rounds on processing equipment, and diagnose basic operational problems and take corrective action per procedure. Coordinate and work with maintenance staff and contractors on preventive and corrective maintenance functions. Perform cleaning and general housekeeping duties in work areas including office, laboratory, cleaning of degritting and centrifuge, and other process equipment as assigned. Will be required to operate automotive equipment, including heavy trucks, forklifts and front-end loaders. Adhere to all site safety requirements and regulations, including wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by policy, work practices, and customer.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

• Coordinate and work with maintenance staff and contractors on preventive and corrective maintenance functions.
• Perform cleaning and general housekeeping duties in work areas including office, laboratory, cleaning of degritting and centrifuge, and other process equipment as assigned.
• Operate automotive equipment, including heavy trucks, forklifts and front-end loaders.
• Adhere to all site safety requirements and regulations, including wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by policy, work practices, and customer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• Degree in related field/or equivalent work experience.
• 3+ years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a chemical processing or wastewater treatment plant.
• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Process Equipment fundamentals: Centrifuge purpose and operation, pumps, valves, motors, blowers, compressors, process flow, LOTO, and basic troubleshooting of abnormal equipment conditions. Capable of being assigned as responsible charge of the facility with an ability to react to unplanned events.
• Required Certification/Licenses/Training: Grade IV or higher Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators Certificate preferred. New Jersey Low Pressure Black Seal Boiler Operator License preferred. Valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to perform the following: climbing ladders, straight pulling, reaching above the shoulder, pushing, walking, standing, crawling, kneeling, repeated bending and sitting for extended periods of time.
• Ability to distinguish basic colors and various shades.

Work Environment

Incumbent will be exposed to varied temperature extremes, noise, fumes, odors, confined spaces, elevated heights, dust, sitting for prolonged times in front of the computer.

Pay Range

$36.00 to $41.00 per hour.
