About the Role
This position grinds and smooths surfaces of manufactured parts prior to finishing operations. This entry-level role requires strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills to support the organization.
Responsibilities
- Examines and feels surface of workpiece for defects.
- Selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, then attaches to grinder.
- Starts grinder and moves it over the surface of the part to remove scratches, rust, and burrs.
- Polishes ground area with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface.
- Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
- Operates lift truck (certification required).
- Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing environment with potential exposure to loud noises and machinery with moving parts.
- Physical demands include bending, stooping, twisting, turning, standing for extended periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
Requirements
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a multi-discipline team environment.
- Ability to execute agreed tasks and deadlines against performance criteria (KPI).
- Computer/ERP literacy.
- Result orientation, ability to follow through, and respect deadlines.
- Proactive and organized.
- Ability to manage confidential information.
- Must pass a physical capacity profile and drug screen.
