Operator, Grinder/Sandblast

About the Role

This position grinds and smooths surfaces of manufactured parts prior to finishing operations. This entry-level role requires strong communication, interpersonal, and team-building skills to support the organization.

Responsibilities

• Examines and feels surface of workpiece for defects.
• Selects grade of abrasive belt, wheel, or disk according to specifications, knowledge of abrasives, and condition of metal, then attaches to grinder.
• Starts grinder and moves it over the surface of the part to remove scratches, rust, and burrs.
• Polishes ground area with finer abrasive to produce a smooth, unmarred surface.
• Replaces worn abrasive disks, wheels, and belts.
• Operates lift truck (certification required).
• Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.

Work Environment

• Manufacturing environment with potential exposure to loud noises and machinery with moving parts.
• Physical demands include bending, stooping, twisting, turning, standing for extended periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.
