About the role
Carpenter Co. has an immediate opening for an Operator A in Rolls Manufacturing on 1st Shift (start time 7:00 AM) with overtime as needed to complete the work for the day. As the Operator A, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of a Loop Slitter and/or a Convolute machine to produce quality cut foam material to meet a daily production schedule for external customers. Forklift certification is required and will be provided.
This position requires daily communication with Quality Control, the Department Manager, and department personnel to ensure the needs of all internal and external customers are met through scheduled cutting instructions. The role operates in a normal manufacturing environment with exposure to temperature changes and loud noise.
Responsibilities
- Read and completely understand the labeling process and read/write in English.
- Maintain a neat, orderly, and safe work environment.
- Operate the Loop Slitter and/or Convolute within established operating standards.
- Verify proper operations of the equipment and report problems to the Supervisor and/or maintenance.
- Make manual adjustments based on product specifications.
- Prepare foam slab material by cutting and gluing as necessary for proper machine loading.
- Provide minor maintenance on the Loop Slitter.
- Conduct quality checks on all materials to ensure product meets specifications.
- Monitor equipment to minimize downtime.
- Record pertinent data into the recording system.
- Follow a prepared production schedule to cut slabs of foam into usable components for internal and external customers.
- Follow work instructions to maintain quality requirements.
- Adjust the cutting schedule to ensure the most efficient use of each slab of foam.
- Communicate with management to ensure proper labeling of produced rolls.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Ability to read a basic tape measure.
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills.
- Some computer experience and ability to use a computer in day-to-day operations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, holidays, and call-in with little notice.
- Ability to perform minor maintenance on machinery.
- Ability to become a Certified Forklift Operator.
- Ability to lift or adjust heavy pieces of foam (35 to 50 lbs).
