Operator 3, Golf Maintenance

Position Overview

The Operator 3 is a member of the Golf Course Maintenance Team, responsible for operating various golf course maintenance equipment and assisting in training less experienced team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs duties assigned to Operator 1 and 2, including bunker raking, green and tee mowing, and hand mowing.
• Operates riding machine equipment such as triplex units, small and large rough machines, fairway machines, approach machines, and rollers.
• Uses specialty equipment like aerifiers, slicers, rollers, sweepers, vertical mowers, vacuums, topdressers, spray equipment, spreaders, sod cutters, car path edging implements, and drag mats.
• Understands and applies the application process of fertilizer and other spreading operations.
• Ensures safety by using personal protective equipment and reporting unsafe conditions or accidents.
• Trains operators and offers guidance to less experienced team members.
• Communicates daily with supervisors regarding work tasks, concerns, and maintenance suggestions.
• Performs daily vehicle refueling and material reloading.
• Maintains and cleans all equipment daily and reports any issues to the mechanic or supervisor.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications / Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of two years' experience in golf maintenance preferred.
• Documented knowledge of golf maintenance with references and work history.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
• Enjoys the game of golf and understands the importance of quality maintenance.
• Completed training for irrigation equipment.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, plans, labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and regulatory documents.
• Confident in performing all golf course maintenance duties without supervision.
• Masterful in the use of hand and power equipment, including mechanical rakes, reel and rotary walk mowers, hover mowers, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, hand and turbine blowers, weed eaters, hand rakes, and mechanical bunker rakes, as well as riding machine equipment.
• Mastery of Operator 1, 2, and 3 skills, reflecting confidence with supervisors.
• Trains and mentors Operator 1 and 2 employees.
• Manages special projects.
• Works independently and communicates positively with team members and supervisors.
• Demonstrates initiative and makes independent decisions based on sound judgment.
• Consistently achieves high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness are crucial.

Work Environment

• Outdoor environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
• Frequent exposure to hazardous conditions including cuts, slipping, tripping, and falls.
• Exposure to Arizona desert wildlife such as snakes, scorpions, spiders, bobcats, javelinas, etc.
• Occasional exposure to precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
• Noise levels can vary depending on the equipment or machines used.
• Employees are required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands

• Very active position requiring standing, walking, sitting, driving, lifting, pushing, digging, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, using hands to fingers, touching and holding, and reaching with hands and arms.
• Regularly required to speak and hear.
• Must be able to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
