Operator 2, Golf Maintenance

Department: Trilogy Encanterra at Encanterra® Country Club – Queen Creek, AZ (45 minutes from downtown Phoenix & Scottsdale)

About the Role

The Operator 2 is a mid-level position on the Golf Course Maintenance Team, responsible for grooming the golf course. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent but also takes direction from the Superintendent, First Assistant Superintendent, Second Assistant Superintendent, and the Crew Foreman.

Responsibilities

• Bunker raking, green and tee mowing, and hand mowing.
• Operate riding machine equipment, including triplex units, small and large rough machines, fairway machines, approach machines, and rollers.
• Follow directions and perform tasks under the supervision of the Foreman and Superintendents; willingness to be coached to increase knowledge within the position.
• Work in a safe manner and use all personal protective equipment (safety gear) assigned; report unsafe conditions or accidents to supervisor.
• Communicate daily with supervisors to report challenges about work tasks, concerns about the golf course, or maintenance suggestions to improve efficiency.
• Perform daily vehicle refueling and reloading of materials.
• Maintain and clean all equipment daily and report equipment issues to mechanic or supervisor.
• Demonstrate mastery of all duties and tools used by an Operator 1, such as mechanical rakes, reel and rotary walk mowers, hover mower, hedge trimmers, line trimmers, hand and turbine blowers, weed eaters, hand rakes and mechanical bunker rakes, and other hand tools (loppers, pruners, rakes, shovels, etc.).
• Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• One to two years’ golf maintenance experience preferred.
• Basic understanding of the game of golf and the importance of minimal distraction to players while performing job tasks to create optimal playing conditions.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.
• Documented knowledge of golf maintenance with references and work history.
• Understanding of proper bunker maintenance, pruning and landscape maintenance, and general golf course maintenance preparation work with little supervision.
• Knowledge of proper equipment operation, including clean up.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, plans, labels, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and regulatory documents.
• Willingness to learn new skills and work independently.
• Ability to communicate positively and effectively with team members and supervisors about job tasks and responsibilities.

Work Environment

• Outdoor environment with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
• Walking while carrying equipment or driving a vehicle on variable terrain, navigating typical golf course obstacles (e.g., water, plants, natural landscape).
• Exposure to hazards including cuts, slipping, tripping, and falls.
• Occasional exposure to Arizona desert wildlife (e.g., snakes, scorpions, spiders, bobcats, javelinas).
• Occasional exposure to precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
• Moderate noise level, varying with equipment or machines used.
• Required to wear all assigned personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands

• Very active role requiring standing and walking for the duration of a shift, sitting and driving, lifting, pushing, digging, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing.
• Use of hands for fingering, touching, holding, and reaching with hands and arms; regularly required to speak and hear.
• Ability to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Pay

$19-$21 per hour
