Operator 1- Solid Waste

About the role

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager, this position handles the unloading, sorting, processing, and loading of recyclables; operates commercial motor vehicles and other heavy equipment to transport recyclables; and performs general equipment and facility maintenance. Assigned tasks rotate and vary according to daily facility needs.

Responsibilities

• Unload, sort, process, and load recyclables
• Operate commercial motor vehicles and heavy equipment to transport recyclables
• Perform general equipment and facility maintenance
• Adhere to traffic, recycling, and safety laws
• Navigate and work within Pierce County as required
• Manipulate boxes and barrels weighing up to 100 lbs., including use of lift gates and pushing materials around the facility
• Lift up to 50 lbs. regularly

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must obtain a valid CDL license within 6 months of hire
• Knowledge of traffic, recycling, and safety laws
• Geographic knowledge of Pierce County

Preferred Qualifications

• CDL license with air brakes (preferred upon hire)
• One year of paid experience driving a commercial motor vehicle requiring a CDL license
• Experience operating skid-steers, forklifts, balers, conveyors, or other recycling equipment

Pay

Starting pay: $23.95–$25.31 per hour, depending on qualifications.

Schedule

Full-time, 40 hours per week.
